What is UCAS?

UCASis the mandatory step for applying to a bachelor's degree program in the UK. In short, you cannot apply directly to a British university for a bachelor's degree without going through UCAS.

A single platform for all universities in the United Kingdom

UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service) is the central platform for applying to UK universities. You can apply online to up to five different universities for the same course. Late applications after January 14th are accepted until June 30th, 2026, but places may be limited.

What types of programs is UCAS used for?

UCAS is used to apply to a wide range of post-secondary study programs in the UK, primarily in higher education.

This includes:

  • Bachelor's degrees (BA, BSc, BEng, etc.) – equivalent to a bachelor's degree
  • Integrated master's degrees (MEng, MSci, etc.) – 4- to 5-year programs combining bachelor's and master's degrees
  • Foundation degrees (FdA, FdSc, etc.) – short, two-year degrees often geared towards employment
  • Foundation years / Year 0 – preparatory year integrated into a bachelor's degree to fill certain gaps (especially useful for international students)

UCAS support offered by Study Experience

Study Experience supports you throughout the entire application process, which is far more complex than applying to a Belgian, French, or Luxembourgish university. Why? It's important to remember that in the UK, the university makes the final decision regarding your admission based on your profile. They will evaluate the documents you submit to us, which we will then review, including your personal statement and letter of recommendation. This is part of our UCAS support service.

Frequently Asked Questions about UCas 2026 Registration

What are the admission criteria for a bachelor's degree in the United Kingdom?

British universities are evaluating:

  • Your academic results (your 5th grade grades at the time of application if you are in your final year of secondary school; your final year grades if you have already completed your secondary education)

  • Your level of English (often a total score for the IELTS Academic of at least 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 skills)

  • Your personal statement (personal statement )

  • A letter of recommendation (“UCAS reference letter”) from a secondary school teacher or at least their contact details

Specific requirements vary depending on the program and the university. It is advisable to check the criteria on each institution's website.

What is the UCAS “personal statement” and how do you write it correctly?

The personal statement is a letter of motivation of approximately 4,000 characters that accompanies every UCAS application. It must be personalized, clear, structured, and demonstrate your motivation, academic skills, and specific interest in the program(s) you are applying to. It should not be generic, and originality must remain relevant. Poor writing can lead to disqualification. It is advantageous to entrust your UCAS application to Study Experience, which will guide you and have it professionally proofread.

What is the “predicted grade” requested in the UCAS application?

The predicted grade is an anticipated mark (often provided by a teacher) that indicates the level a student is expected to achieve in their final exams. It is essential in the conditional admissions process in the UK. For students in the Belgian or French systems, this assessment can be based on their most recent report card or results from previous years.

What is “Clearing” and how does it work?

The “Clearing” process allows students without an offer of admission, or those who achieved better-than-expected results, to apply for available places after the A-level results are published in August. It typically begins in July and ends in October.

What is “UCAS Extra”?

UCAS Extra is a free service that allows applicants to add a new application after using their initial five choices on UCAS, provided they have no offers or have declined any they have received. This process is available between February 26 and July 1, 2026.From July 2, applicants can access the Clearing (see the question above) to search for available places.
